no thermostat

I went to change my Coolant and thermostat today and have found out the stat was missing.
As this causes the engine to take longer to get to running temp, could that cause more build up of "mayonnaise" in the oil, due to condensation, and not getting burnt off?

Yep, it wont help at all with warming up. Sometimes they are taken out to help cool the engine if there is a problem (cheap fix!) Pop a new one in and make sure you get a new rubber gasket, it might come with one. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge just incase...
I think this one comes with the seal/gasket?

When you say gasket do you mean rubber O ring?
I've fitted one now and system is all up and running. And yeah it came to temp a lot quicker. Before I could do a 20mile drive and the gauge would hardly move!!
