fuel vapour seperator

Can someone explain what this is for please, and is it worth replacing for any reason?

its there to help regulate fuel pressure but also to filter air bubbles back to the tank instead of getting to the carb although there shouldnt be air bubbles in there anyway.
there is also a big fuel filter in there that can get full of crap over the years causing fuel starvation at higher revs.
someone on this forum cut one in half and it was full of filth.
some people ditch them and just have the pump piped straight to the carb, i tried this once and it constantly flooded the car at start up and used more fuel because the pump if in good nick will overcome the float bowl shut off valve in the carb forcing too much fuel in.

Cool thanks, was wondering if its worth replacing just in case. I think I will as its the original.

I got mine off eBay brand new, wasn't very much.
