where's the hole

Post by pasenah »

I've noticed a very small amount of water appearing in my shelf that's in front of my fuse board.

Where's the hole likely to be?

I've looked in the channel under the bonnet, where the wiper motors are, but haven't lifted the rain gutter.

Check for any missing/damaged grommets and also look at the windscreen seal.

also check for rusting thru inside the plenum (under that flimsy bit of plastic in the engine bay) you'll need a mirror and a torch

Most of the times it is caused by a leaking windscreen.

As they where mounted without any sticky stuf the seals seem to dry out and schrink a bit and through comes the water.

I will add a drawing of how they fix it in the workshop.

4= sealing compound (no silicone)

The windscreen seal looks ok but I'll double check.
One thing I've found is a gap along the top of the wing, where it bolts to the body, beside the rain gutter. So I've sealed that and eliminate as I go.
Thanks

I've got the same problem. I took it to be the windscreen seal and treated it with 'Creaping Crack' thought it had sorted it but I've started getting water again not in the fuse box undertray but in the passenger footwell by the bonnet release. I will have a check of the plenum.

I'll stop gushing now ha!
Start off slow and methodical, that doesn't work so shout curse and hit it till it works.

Best way to check for leaks is to borrow a smoke machine of someone. Turn it on in the car (have to put the lead through the window and tape around it) and see where the smoke escapes out of the car, this will be where ya leak is! If u can't see where it's coming from its probably ya heater matrix leaking. Oh and if ya want ya car to smell fresh you could use the banana flavoured smoke!
