hi guys need some help my 87 1.6 gt (auto) seems to have a cooling problem which consists of the fact that she keeps blowing pipes :/ she so far this month has put a hole in the upper radiator pipe (now about an inch shorter than it should be), and both the heater matrix feeds. Question i have mainly is that she seems to be over pressurising (basically the pipes feel rock hard), any idea what could cause this?? and also a way to fix it? also any one know where i can get new pipes form?? as not having much luck finding any
cheers

Is your header tank cap still the old black type? If it is buy a new blue colour one from your local VW dealer.
Also try your dealer for the pipes, if not the usual suspects such as GSF, Euro Car Parts, VW Heritage, Volkspares etc.

i'd be tempted to get your local garage to do a sniff test to rule out any head gasket problems.
but agree that a blue cap is a good idea if it hasn't already got one
i'm also assuming that the coolant is clean, not brown rusty sludge, and is circulating ok. heater as hot as the fires of hell?

Also look under mk1 golf for new hoses, not sure if these are the hoses you need?

Just re read your post and it's a 1.6 radiator hoses no good for you, I'll keep looking...
The same company as above also seems to sell other hoses.

I got most of mine from a VW dealer so as already said give them a call, they are not always as expensive as you think!

Also worth changing your thermostat (and gasket). And ensure your bleed the system after refilling.
