Alternative / Replacement Radiator Fan MK2 GT2 1.8 8v

Hi,

The radiator fan motor on my 91 GT2 has died. It's the 3 pin, 2 speed type. Does anyone know if any of the other (more common) vags use the same fan motor and blades which I could bolt into my original cowling? It has been suggested to me that one of the mk3 golf ones may work? This would be convenient as there is a pile of them at the local scrapyard.

Apologies if this has already been answered on here somewhere, couldn't find anything.

Cheers!

The fan blades on the Scirocco are 280mm, the ones on a MK3 Golf are 303mm.

There are two fans listed for a Scirocco, 165 959 455L, which is rated at 100/60w and 165 959 455AM which is rated at 250/150w.
The MK2 Golfs (and Jettas) use the same fans.

The MK3 Golfs at the same rating, part numbers 1HO 959455 100/60w and 1HO 959455D 250/150w. So in theory the motor is comparable but the actual fan isn't!

Best to find your part number and work from there.

Thanks for the reply. It's kind of tempting to try and put my fan blades onto an equivalent mk3 motor but that's probably more effort than it's worth.

I'll grab my part number and go from there as you say. Have borrowed one for the time being!

Cheers

I think that it will be the first part number as I have a feeling the second number is for an air-con model (US).
There are a few on Ebay for sale.

good luck and I hope it is an easy fix for you.

Cheers all, went for the 165 959 455L part and it bolted straight in. Sorted, thanks.
