Rack Adjustment

I believe there some adjustment available on the steering rack, what exactly does it adjust? 
My steering's been a bit notchy since i got the track rods replaced the rack's fairly recent, as are the top mounts, replaced the bearing at the bottom of the steering column and now replaced the U J.
anybody got any ideas?
