having starting problems -tried a new coil ( Bosch identical swap) but my Haynes manual suggests a faulty ballast resistor- has anyone had this and if so how do I replace it- the wiring diagram has a non colour coded wire from the positive of the coil into the ignition but not clear.

Car starts and fires up then cuts out as key released fuel and spark present, runs fine if +ve of coil shorted to battery +ve- according to Haynes this means ballast resistor faulty- ballast resistors provide a huge mass of conflicting blogs on the net.

my immediate thought is dodgy ignition switch. i'll go have a quick check of the wiring diagram to remind myself how it's connected, and get back to you...

my ignition switch did similar to me ages ago if i pulled the wires to a certain position it would run try fiddling with the wires on the back of the ignition switch and see if it will run
