I think that's the tricky bit. I'm not aware of ANY (standard) carbed 16V VW engines. .. and if you were to graft a weber (assuming you're thinking DMTL like you'd put on an 8V) on the end of a standard 16V manifold, it'd be on it's side, or would need a hole cutting in the bonnet to clear(!) ... Saying that, you could dispose of the manifold, block the injector holes and fit a new manifold for 40s (or 45s ... or bike carbs)
From the FAQ, the easiest looks like starting off with a KJET 8V, and putting in a KJET 16V. ... The loom presumably has the same connectors, but not necessarily the right length of wire. (I've not tried!)
There is something about cams, you're right - they're a bit spikier in 1 of the engines - I forget which though, KR, 9A or ABF

thanks, yea im thinking of 40z or 45z all brand new with a brand new manifold, i dont want to waste time and money on 2nd hand parts again, how easy is it to blank the injector holes? and i wouldnt need a loom if it was carbed, all i would need is oil pressure, fuel pump, ignition and 1 other im forgetting it may be crankshaft sensor(if it has one lol)

Yep - you'd just need senders for the dash gauges/lights, and a vac. advance dizzy (relevant if you're looking at later/digi engines) (or some electronics to support electronic advance whereupon you'd need the crank position sensor)

bike carbs are popular with the 16v lads and will give you more clearance between the manifold and bulk head.

ignore the bulk head part, as the intake on 16v is on the front of the engine DOH, i was'nt thinking straight, but bike carbs are probably the way to go though.

as for your head/block combo the 2lt abf bottom end with 1.8 kr head is a popular combo, if you decide to use the 2ltr bottom end make sure you use the 2ltr distributor, for info on wiring looms and wiring conversion look up a chap called (rub jonny) on most VW forums clubgti etc, any thing he does'nt know about wiring is'nt worth knowing lol

kool yea my last 1 had 2ltr block and 1.8 head(carb 8v) n gti cam, was still good but not what im after, it was rather flat, im looking at blocking injector holes and i need a quide on that lol

as far as im aware the injectors are in the manifold so no need to block them like you would need to to run a 8v injection on a carb
