Factory Sunroof Question

Hi Everyone
It's not technically a Scirocco question, as it's about my Polo, but it has a Factory fitted sunroof that has been silicone sealed shut, by the previous owner, presumably to stop a leak.
What I wanted to know, is there somewhere I can get it refitted ?, re sealed, or what ever it takes to get it useable again.
It's the same as I had on my previous Rocco, a 1.8 F reg Scala, the pop up type roof.
Any help would be great
Cheers
Paul

Tilt/slide metal roof, or a pop-up glass roof?
If it's a glass roof, I'm pretty sure they were all dealer-fit not factory (on any VW of the era).
If it needs a new rubber you'll need to work out who the manufacturer of the roof was (probably not actually VW, even if that's what's printed on it) or remove the seal and see if you can find a matching pattern from somewhere - there are several places that sell this type of thing, usually advertising in the back of the classic car mags.

Hi Ed
Tilt/slide metal roof ??, did they ever do one on a MK2 Polo ?, no it's the pop up jobbie, although it'd probably be easier, ( and Cheaper ) to get a plate welded in the roof, but it's good in the summer when you need the airflow in the car.
I'll give those magazines a try and see what I can come up with.
Many Thanks
Paul

In the back of Practical Classics this month is:
Peter Harvey - 01304 614412 or 07956 292376 - who advertises as a Webasto specialist but does repairs for all kinds of roof.
or
http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/ might be worth a try as well.
or

Let us know how you get on as it's always helpful to know about good suppliers/tradesmen.

if it's the glass one, you should be able to remove the glass completely. open it then push the little red catch, open the lower plastic half of the hinge (makes sense when you look at it) and lift the whole thing off.
set about the glass with some warm soapy water and a toothbrush. get all the traces of green slime off. then work a small amount of vaseline into the rubber. refit the glass (reverse of removal, but a bit fiddlyer) and that usually sorts them

Did this the other week and it works a treat!
