Scirocco Register

Hi,

I need to replace the rocker cover gasket on my GTX. Is this easy enough to do? and should I replace with cork or rubber? I have heard the rubber needs new studs and knowing my luck one of the old ones will shear off or something and I wish I had stuck to cork!

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I have done both mine with the rubber one, much better! I had no problems getting the old studs out but they can be hard (I was lucky), worthwhile having some heat on hand in case. Soak with loads of penetrating fluid first.

I've done one of mine, the studs were easy to get out. Some came out when undoing the nuts, others needed a slight persuasion with a pair of pliers. Think the oil in the cork gasket stops them from seizing up. However, the rubber one is far better than the cork one.

Easy way to get the studs out is use 2 of the nuts and lock them together then put the spanner on the bottom nut and undo the stud this way you will not damage the thread, also useful if putting the new studs in just put the spanner on the top nut. Can also be used if removing any other studs if stripping down the head.
