Hi all
the VR6 has been archived for years - on the hope of beter times i can afford to run it - but every so often i pop up and run it.
anyhow i went up the other month - didnt start it - but did a bit of welding ( i had the battery off) before i went i went to fire it up and it just turned over but didnt start. so at first i thought maybe i had done the ecu in.
anyhow - the fuel pumps running ( this and the starter are on the immobizer) and it turns over fine.
i fiddled with various items as you do and had it fire only to die when i press the throttle and not to start again.
the diagnostic plug is missing.
but after googling i hope to have worked out how to wire this in - i bought a socket off fleabay and am gonna have a go at it. The instructions are just three wires - a positive, an earth and a grey white wire behind the fuse box which goes to the ECU - typically there are two grey white wires behind the fuse box - but apparantley it has a brown plug on the end - i have found a brown plug one with a grey white wire and a yellow wire - so if anyone happens to be dead clever on this type of stuff let me know.
so if anyone can offer any assistance in getting the beast running again i would appreciate it. The fact it started gave me hope i would run it again. The fact that it doesnt at the mo - doesnt make me very happy...
thanks all
Mike

Get the socket fitted and get it read. Hopefully that will point you the right way. Vagcom is quite easy to aquire, then buy a lead to connect laptop from your prefferred internet auction site. Alternatively, buy a vag specific hand held scanner. I've got an autel one which will read anything vag from 92 to today
