Hey guys, pretty new here. Decided i reallllly want a mk1 scirocco. they are perfect!

But.... what are the chances of finding one for £1500? After a couple of months id have £2000 to spend.

Do many for around that price range go by at all?
There are hardly any if any on ebay, gumtree, pisonheads and auto trader
Cheers

It is possible to find one but you would need a few grand more to get it sorted, look under rust in a dictionary!!

I had a 7 year old MK1 in 1985, it was beginning to rust then!

And for more graphic examples of mk1 rust, look at the pics of mine in the Rocco grotto thread in the projects section. Not trying to put you off, but it will give you an idea of what you need to check for when buying

Wait until you've saved around £3,500, then buy a really good one, unless you want (as the others have said) a project with a lot of rust. Even at £3.5k, you need to tread very carefully - don't buy without getting a very thorough look underneath (up on ramps, ideally).

I'd say every £500 you spend on the purchase price should save you £1000 in restoration costs! Save for as long as you can till the right car comes around, then crawl all over it looking for rust.

I think you mean crawl all over it to find where there is NO rust...
