Hey guys.

After eventually removing the old engine from my gtx I was going to go down the 16v route but I have been
Told to put a mk3 golf 2.0l 8v gti bottom end and use the dx head?
I have found a mk3 gti engine for cheap.
I was wondering if anyone else has done this before?

Thanks
Stephen

I just read through your build thread. Brilliant car!
What did you do with the dizzy? Im lead tho believe that the 2.0l dizzy doesn't work with the 1.8l head and vice versa.

Thanks
Stephen

you need to fit a spacer ring to the 1.8 dizzy then fit the 2.0 drive cog to the 1.8 dizzy

Thanks. Where would you get one of these spacers?
Also what head gasket set, clutch and timing belt kit would I use?
Is the 2.0l bottom end and the 1.8l head better than the standard 1.8l engine?

Cheers, stephen

im not shure if you can buy them off the shelf anymore i had my spacer made by a friend any engineering place should be able to sort you out
use your standard flywheel and clutch
you will need a 2.0 cambelt as the block is about 17mm taller
i used a mk3 metal type headgasket but you can use the 1.8 as all the oilways ect still line up
it does make quite a noticable difference over the 1.8 i never put mine on a rolling road to see how much i had gained though
