Overheated... :(

So... as per my 'wanted parts' add, I had a coolant hose split on me on Saturday. Helpfully at the water pump end it was the one that feeds from the expansion tank, so that emptied it pretty quickly!!

I didn't really notice the temp rise until late, engine got chuffing warm... what are peoples thoughts as to what potential damage could have been caused? RAC man came and patched her up so I could drive home (stopped about a mile from home) and it seems OK, but can't really test it until I get the next pipe fitted.

Is it likely to have ruined the head gasket? If so, how are they to do on these cars? I'm meant to be going to the classic in her this weekend, and I'm determined to get there!

Any and all help and suggestions welcome!

I reckon it'll be fine fella. My water pump belt went tits on the way to Roadstar and everything went a bit mental. Let it cool down, changed the belt and it was fine

I agree with Mr F, did you drive for miles and boil the engine or was it just a tad warmer than normal?

Change the engine oil!
My belt went and the engine overheated and cooked the oil so it went very thin.
Head gasket should be ok, just look out for the signs if your worries.
They are quite easy to Change. I did mine a few years ago and cost little over 100 quid to do,
Including a head skim.
Just watch out for water leaks as the hot engine may have perished little o rings.

It will be fine, I drove 1 of mine 8 miles with no water due to a hose bursting....it did pink a lot though.

Thanks guys, this has made me a little more relaxed!!

Got the new pipe in place today and have run it up to temp, seems to be behaving itself which is good! Couple of the carb water pipes have tiny splits in them which I am now replacing, and finally tracked down what I hope is the cause of my oil leak (leaky oil pressure sensor of all things).

They are rated by colour so make sure you fit either the blue one for a blue one and white for white. They are avaible from dealers last time I got one.
