Hello everyone,

Newbie here so be gentle no mad initiation ceremonies please!

I have acquired a 1991 Scirocco GT2 and are improving it over the next few months - new seats as mine are ripped, other interior items and sorting a rusty fuel filler neck!

Anyway I jacked the car up the other day and noticed that one of my springs has broken in three places! The car is lowered (see pic below) I am not sure how much it has been lowered by so wondered if:

Someone can make a good judgement from the photo as to how much it has been dropped: 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm?

Or

What the standard ride height is, what measurements from sill to ground and measurements from top of wheel to wheel arch (I should then be able to work out the drop on my car)

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

From that picture I would say about 35-40mm, but it is hard to judge as there are so many factors, i.e engine, stuff in the boot etc.

What make springs are they, maybe they have a part number that can be cross referenced? If in doubt change all the springs for something like Eibach, which will give a drop of 30-35mm.

You should always change springs together on the same axle.

I'd say that was a lot lower than 40mm, those rims aren't huge and they look like they're pretty close to the arches! That's got to be 50-60mm

yep - they could even be 5 1/2 x 13 BBS and do look lost in the arches.

that's a 50mm drop exacerbated by the small wheels.

Thanks guys

They are 13" bbs think they look quite good but there are always better options out there

VW only ever put 14" rims on the body-kitted Sciroccos - presumably as much for cosmetic reasons as handling, since they were happy enough with 13" before they added the 'kit.

You can get the same style of wheel in 14" and 15".
