292 light on buzzer relay acting a little odd.

Hi,
I have got a 292 buzzer relay for my car as I always forget to turn my light off.
Tested it out of the car and it buzzes fine.
Put it in the car and it doesn't work.
Have done a little messing and found that if I put my wipers on it works as it should. Lights on & no ignition it buzzes, but if I leave the wipers off it doesn't work at all. It also makes a loud buzz if I put the wipers on slow or fast, but makes a quiet buzz if I put the wipers on intermittent.
I am using a 99 relay for my wipers if this makes any difference?
Any ideas why anyone?
Ben.

Had a quick look at my fuse box and can't see a 99 relay anywhere.
These are the only ones fitted to mine.
I also had a look in the spares dept and came across these.
Funny how only three of my spares match up with what's in the fuse box ???????
If there is anything here you may need or want to try drop me your address in a PM and I'll post it down to you.
Good luck.

A 99 relay would replace the 19 relay in the fusebox, and give the variable intermittent wiper function.
I believe others on here have tried the lights on buzzer relay, and found it does not work properly in our cars, as they were not designed for them. A search may reveal more info, as I recall the subject being discussed at length. Assuming the topic was not on the previous forum.

I would guess that it needs an earth that it doesn't have, and by leaving the wipers on it is managing to earth through them somehow. Easiest way to wire in a lights on buzzer is to take a live from the sidelights and a switched earth from the drivers door. This won't tell you when you leave the "parking lights" (one side of the sidelights, switched by the indicator stalk) on though

Does your 292 relay have a wiring diagram printed on it?

Interesting, my 292 works A-OK.
Believe it replaces the fog light relay?

No, Just part numbers and numbers on the pins.

That might be the next course of action, Have got a relay holder to clip to the top of the fusebox so might just end up wiring it in that way.

As far as I remember the only issues people had was that the fog lights don't work with this relay. Will have a search though and see what I can find.

I have some 99 relays for sale if you want one to replace your 19?
They are on ebay at the moment but will be adding to the for sale section in the near future. PM me if you want one though.

That's interesting, I have it in place of the fog light relay, position 7 in the fusebox.
Good to know they 'can' work.
Ben.

I appear to have fixed it.
Turned the front fog lights on this morning and when I turned the ignition off, it buzzed.
Turned the fogs off again and now it works as it should.
Slightly confused but it works.

I wired a buzzer in from both side lights via diodes then earthed it through the drivers door switch. This stops me leaving any sidelights on including the parking lights from leaving the indicators on.

Why thru diodes? I suspect I'm probably being a 'tard and missing something blindingly obvious

Otherwise leaving the parking light on on one side would feed across to the other parking light.
