Bought a pair of these boots from http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id=674 weeks back because the original ones look tired...


However they seem small as the drive shafts seem bigger than the ones I had on my previous 89 GT (92 GT2 ones above in picture)


Or are they simply a tight fit? picture doesn't make things that clear but if you look at the small end the new boot seems small length wise and internally..


Maybe they will stretch and fit fine or not?, was having a bit of a panic when I was heading out of workshop. can anyone confirm if I need bigger boots for the later 92 GT2?

Are they stretchy boots? Or are they ones that you have to remove one of the joints?

Looks right from what I can make out from the photo but its hard to tell, tap the outer CV joint off the drive shaft and see if it fits the shaft.

Looks fine to me - I'm sure there will be a little bit of give in it.

We did Gayle's recently. They look the same as the ones she got, you just need to stretch them on.

I had stripped the front end to fit new wishbones/ball joints with fresh bushes last night along with these CV boots and was having a mild panic when I saw the shafts looked bigger. They are not the stretchy ones but looking at the inner diameters of the wide end from other suppliers indicates 83mm which seems to be what I have.

A little smear of grease on the inside of the small end of the rubber boot and on the drive shaft will help it slide on.
Make sure you make a note of which bits and which way around the washers come off (they are concaved), you might not need all the bits in the box from the new one.

Sorted thanks, the boots fitted fine. I'll need to keep an eye on the inner boots as on one side where there hadn't previously been an exhaust heat shield it has gone out of shape and could get worse. However I now have a shield on so should be fine for the foreseeable.

Do you know what dia your driveshafts are so I can check mine are the same and the boots will fit.

Got the CV boots from http://www.vwspares.co.uk/index.html not exactly sure on size of shafts but just went by year on the boots available. It was £4.55 per boot with the clips and grease +postage but I had ordered a bunch of stuff getting better value. Yours might be smaller but it should be pretty easy to figure out. Carpartsforless have them too and give sizes for most. I had the CV's in pieces completely cleaned and replaced the grease.

The wishbones were the ones previously fitted on the last Scirocco that I rubbed down and painted with two coats of Rustoleum. They had only done a few hundred miles. They were bought from http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/ went for cheapness at the time and the fact that they had bushes ready fitted. You can get wishbones from the other place also but I'm not sure the bushes are fitted. There is that whole debate about Polybushes but I just went with what I had for now. Rear beam will get done soon as i still have all the fresh bits that never got fitted to the previous swamp buggy. Going to be doing much more to the car over the summer.

I'm sure we will catch up at some point, sorry I didn't make Biggar.
