Can anybody tell me where I can get one of these? Looked everywhere, nobody seems to sell them, which is weird as they rot so much. Mine looks like it's about to disintegrate, corroding badly!

Late mk2? (Space-saver spare)
VW Classic parts do a genuine VW one, slightly over £100. Order direct or via VW heritage.

Just make sure you paint and treat the new filler neck as they only come with a thin coat of paint which chips off with the first stone, in a couple of winters you have another rusty filler neck.

Yeah cheers for that, can't believe VW didn't protect it better. When you see how much waxoyle is oozing out from every hole on the rest of the car, you'd think VW would have put some kind of shield there or something! Gonna stone chip seal it and flood the area with waxoyle, the rest of my car is mint!

yup, virtually impossible to get. eurocarparts can get them. gsf often have them in stock at the branches, heritage do them, some vw agents carry them (bradford used to) and they're regularly cropping up on ebay. use the forum search tool and you'll even find the part number ;)

Mk1 golf filler necks fit. Just need cutting to fit. Much cheaper option of you wanna send the vw heritage one back.
Distance selling regs should make them pay the cost of posting it back in theory.

And you have to use a different fuel cap with the mk1 Golf neck. It's also very difficult to get it sitting properly behind the flap (I've never seen one that actually looks right).

With that in mind, I'm glad I've gone for the proper one. Would like to keep the car as near original as pos (bar the weber and grill). Just can't believe vw messed up with this, in application and availability!

Its not just vw who have problems with rusty fuller necks on old cars. Seen loads of jap stuff suffering the same. Due to their location, they do tend to get pelted with road grit off the rrear wheels

To be fair, most of them last to around 20 years, which is well beyond what any car manufacturer would think of as the normal lifespan for a car.

Yeah, my car is 21 years old and the pipe hasn't actually fallen apart, but getting close to it. Big flakes of rust came off in my hand on the outside of the pipe!
