hi everyone may have a problem with my car ive been using the car for the last week after a 12 year lay up and ive now noticed a small oil leak its above the oil pressure sender leaking from the join at the head gasket only a tiny bit there is no smoke from the exhaust plus it runs great should i be worried

can anyone help or have any advise
oil is leaking down the front of the engine just above the oil filter definately from the head gasket its running down between the block and cylinder head about a teaspoon full everytime i use the car, i know this because there is always a little pool of oil below the leak are they known for leaking oil in this area plus how hard is it to remove the head and change the gasket

It is not difficult to remove the head and change the gasket, if you have the correct tools and space to do it!
The head will most certainly need to be skimmed before refitting and will need to be torqued correctly. If you are uncertain or do not have the tools leave it to someone who does.

If you have a Haynes manual I would suggest reading it then deciding for yourself whether to tackle the job.

thanks will post some piccys of the calamity about to unfold when i get round to changing the gasket cheers

clean the area up then start it up and try to see where it is coming from just to make shure that it is coming from the headgasket as i have had leaks in the past from the rocker cover gasket and from the oil filter housing gasket too

cheers its deffo the head gasket and its getting worse i have got a haynes manual on the way so will read up on changing the gasket can i re use the bolts also i may just check the head bolt torque setting just to check no bolts are loose any one got the torque setting and the pattern to tighten them up

If you are doing the head gasket, pay the money and get the new head bolts, they are only 13 quid from www.vwspares.co.uk and are a decent brand. I'd recommend their gasket set as well as it'll have all the gaskets you need and be a decent quality kit. Look under mk2 golf as they don't seem to list much for the rocco....
