I think there is a way of testing the warm-up regulator... probably covered in Haynes. I think the auxiliary air valve might also be something to look at.

I believe that sometimes if your injectors are leaking the car can be hard to start after being left for a while because you get a build up of fuel that takes a while to clear before there's a mixture that will ignite properly.

I'm no expert on these things so hopefully someone else will be along soon...

Hi mate, this could be down to a number of things such as faulty warm up regulator, fauty cold start injector, a faulty fuel regulator or even dirty injectors. The last two can allow pressurein the fuel system to escape when the car isn't running and is standing for long periods. When you turn the ignition on, do you hear the fuel pump prime ? If not then it's possible that the fuel pump relay has packed up. It's also worth checking that the fuel lift pump in the tank is working. Hope this helps.

ive been checking various parts of the cold start setup, as my car is the same. I and have found that my auxiliary air valve (behind the head) was stuck slightly open, meaning that the engine wasn't getting enough air when cold. i'll be replacing it this week, and think that could be causing the problems. swapping the cold start injector and warm up regulator didn't make any difference, thugh there is a possibility that the 5th injector isn't actually injecting any fuel either, not sure about this though.

Could be a faulty auto choke/waxstat sticking wide open. Take the filter off and start the engine have a look to see the position of the chock is nearly closed.
