Scirocco Register

Have finally got round to refurbing the GTS, I've only had it 18 years ! (will post up a project thread when I've made some progress) and have started with the rear beam as I had mot advisory on Braking effect and wheel bearings.Trying to keep it all original but can't get the Rear beam axle bearings any more (part No. 171501537b or 161501537) discontinued at main dealers, and although VW Heritage are listing them, they can't actually get them. Does anybody have any ideas where I could source some ? Otherwise I was thinking of trying the Black Polybush ones from VW Heritage (WC40G107) cos at least they'll look less obvious. Has anyone tried these ?
Also, I want to replace the rear shocks and am trying to get as near to original as possible. Has anyone tried the Boge ones from GSF ? or the Meyle ones from VWHeritage ?

Boge Turbo Gas are awful things IMO unless you like bouncing down the road.

I'd recommend Bilstein B4 dampers. 10% stiffer than a standard damper. I have them with Eibach springs and anti roll bars and the result is a comfortable car able to cope with modern pot holed and speed bumped roads but which has great stability and virtually no bodyroll when flying around corners and roundabouts. I've had my Scirocco for 14 years as a daily driver and my only regret is not switching to this set up sooner! I fitted the above 12 months ago along with poly bushes and new ball joints, top mounts, steering rack, arms and track rod ends. Sharp as a tack after having a proper geometry set up afterwards :)

Cheers MJK24 - I'll have a look at them, where did you source them ? Does anyone know is Boge the same as Sachs, they seem to be the GSF options ? Anyone tried Meyle ?

I got them from Balance Motorsport literally this time last year. At the time, Bilstein UK were relocating and as such, returned all their stock to Germany. Due to this, there was a wait of 5 working days. As they're the same as Mk1 Golf parts, I'd expect them to have stock in the UK. One axle set is £18 per shock and the other is £35 per shock approx.

Bilstein say that these dampers are matched to work with Eibach lowering springs and Eibach in return recommend these dampers!
