I know this subject has been done to death but I can't find the right info on search. My rear beam anti roll bar U shaped brackets look a bit dodgy and the MOT is due. Anybody know if and where you can get these?

They're on the vw classic parts website so VW Heritage should have them/be able to get them.

Mr F, Any advice on doing the job (apart from don't bother!!) The Haynes book of lies gives a small bit on doing it by undoing the inner clamps first before the outers but no advice on where the car should be i.e. on ramps, jacked up, weight on/off wheels etc. I assume when the clamps are released the torsion in the ARB prevents them from being fitted easily. What did you use and any good tips to help?

My best piece of advice would be twofold:

Remove the rear beam
Make sure you have enough alcohol to help you forget what you are about to do.

Admittedly I did it while the beam was still on the car in freezing cold rain so I'm biased but:

Remove the beam
Cut the clamps off -if you can manually remove them then brilliant but chances are they'll be rusted on
Get either a mate with massive arms and some grips or a vice and use it to close the clamp. I used the excellent crazy quiff stuff and poly bushes so getting the clamps on was a real mission, it's well worth it but be prepared for an awful job.

I had to change mine when fitting Eibach bars to mine. Horrendous job. You need four hands and the strength of Arnie. Equally hard on the frustration scale is fitting a front anti roll bar if you don't have a helper.

Just cut the brackets off mine, the way they sprang apart (and that was with the old squashed rubbers) made me think it might be quite difficult to get the new ones on. I've bought OE bushes and intend to get the QUIFF stainless clamps - anyone tried getting this combo back together ?

"looking a bit dodgy" is not a reason for failure. so long as they are securely attached it's a pass, or maybe a pass and advise

When fitting new clamps, use 2 mole wrenches (1 on, then the other, remove 1st tighten, re-fit, remove 2nd tighten etc) to draw the ends together. Make sure your last mole is on the wide end, and the clip will slide right up to the wrench easily.

A good lash of copper grease round everything helps!

I think I used a G clamp to press it on the rest of the way, then just knock the end round.

That technique turns the nightmare into a 10 minuter!

Love that solution fonzy, I knew somebody would have a good one. Car passed its MOT anyway as they are, so I have the option now to do the clamps slow time.
