Check your alternator belt, is it tight enough? Also check your alternator is kicking out at least 14 volts.

thanks,i think its time to buy a multi meter and learn how to use it ive now now booked the car into a garage to try to solve the running problems it can only be fuel or electrics i think fuel tank coil carb or pump, really is annoying that i cant drive it in a moment of madness and frustration i put it on fleabay as i realy need a working car but now i am determined to try to fix the car and having to walk everywhere is keeping me in shape ha ha

Another thought! Is the earth strap that connects to the rocker cover from the coil intact? A detached strap causes all sorts of weird issues!

My battery light flickers at idle with nothing on. Switch anything electrical on and it goes out.
I put it down to old car syndrome.
I changed all cables and complete alternator and battery all to no avail.
So I live with it.
I would check your earths but I don't think that will be the reason you have power loss.
When was the last time it was serviced?

could just be something as simple as the tickover is a tiny bit slow

thanks i did remove the carb and found the carb manifold gasket soaked in petrol i also noticed the choke was staying a quarter open bacause it was not lined up properly and the engine idle was not set up properly(i am learning as i go along), any way one carb base bolt was not screwed in properly so with that sorted and the carb now bolted on nice and tight i reset the choke and idle and it seems to run ok a ,taking it for a tune up today so will post what the garage says about the car cheers
