Scirocco Register

Morning all,

I'm going to be fitting a new suspension kit in the coming weeks, and whilst I'm under there I figured it would be a good idea to renew all of the suspension bushes at the same time. I'm just trying to get an idea of what I need, where to get it, and how long it's likely to take to complete the job.

So, from the front to back, I'm intending to replace the front wishbones (and bushes), front ARB bushes, rear ARB bushes and the rear axle bushes, as well as replacing all top mounts on the suspension. Anything else I should consider doing at the same time?

Having read a bit about my options, I'm planning on using standard rubber throughout rather than polybushes, since the car is used primarily on small roads and around town, so a more forgiving ride is probably best. I understand I can still get the rubber bushes direct from VW, is this still the case?

Any ideas on how much time I should anticipate this taking? Anything specific that might be a pain in the rear?

VW told me that front suspension top mounts were obsolete.
Maybe VW Heritage?

Most if not all of the bushes are obsolete at vw now, febi bilstein used to be ok but are now apparently rubbish with a lot of stuff being made in china, i personally was never impressed with the febi parts i have had in the past with some failing within just a couple of weeks, heritage or the vw classic parts department in germany are probably your best bet for quality bits

I avoid febi like the plague. Fitted some top mounts and they just weren't up to the job.
I assume I got mine from ECP, shall have a look.

bush wise don't automatically poopoo the idea of going poly. If everything else is standard all you'll notice is everything being a little firmer, avoid poly engine mounts though unless you have a good dentist.

Reminds me, really should start work on the user manual again.

It's worth going poly for the rear axle bushes. From what I remember the oem type rubber ones have to be pressed in whereas the poly ones slide in with a bit of grease.

Thanks for all the advice, guys - I think on the back of your recommendations that I will go with poly bushes, specifically Superpro ones as they seem to have better reviews and have more "give" according to various sources.

I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with the ARB and wishbone bushes at front and rear, but I'm less sure about the rear axle bushes. What's involved in replacing them? Does the rear beam need to be removed?

The yellow polysport bushes from rally design http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/index.php? ... 33_741_761 (also available on ebay) seem fine, i ran them in my last scirocco and didnt find them too hard, superpro are also meant to be good and are probably who i will be ordering from shortly http://www.superpro.com.au/find-superpr ... 98&series= (also available on ebay)

Rear beam bushes can from memory be changed just by lowering that edge of the axle, you may need to disconnect the flexible brake lines though i cannot remember as i have always taken the axle off to do other work at the same time
