wiring in a rear foglight on 1979 storm?

just bought a rear auxillary foglight for my mk1 storm along with a switch.

my problem is that, when i took the switch blank out of the dash to fit the switch, there doesnt seem to be a plug or wiring for the switch (i assumed it would be there from factory)

there is an unnocupied wire in the boot which seems to match the fog light connector so im assuming that goes to the fusebox?

so...

it seems like all i need is the wiring from switch to fusebox

any ideas on what my next step is?

on the back of the switch do i just need a live feed, earth and then a wire to go to a relay on the fusebox?
would the new relay need to be fused or unfused?

or is the wiring already there somewhere behind the dash and im just not looking hard enough? lol

massive thanks in advance for help and advice

Switch will need a feed from the dash illumination, an earth, a live in and either a switched live or switched earth out. The pins on the back of the switch should have numbers on, which should help you work out what they are with reference to the wiring diagram. Also should say that the live into the switch should come from the dip beam circuit.

Fog lights weren't compulsory until 1st April 1980 in the UK so your car won't have the wiring.

Presumably they weren't compulsory in Germany either which is why, for 1980 onwards, VW just added an extra harness to the existing fuse box and drilled a couple of holes in the shell/bumper.

Regarding the eBay kit, it's just a switch, wires and relay so has all the parts you'll need - however, as its meant for front spots, the wire may not be long enough.

the weird thing is that some of the wiring is there.

theres a grey and white wire that runs from next to the fusebox all the way to the rear lights
theres also a yellow and white wire from next to the fusebox which goes into the engine bay
they have connectors but they arent connected

and according to google theyre the correct colour wires for front and rear fogs

my rear bumper also has the factory hole for mounting the foglight.

i know i dont need one for MOT (i also didnt need rear seatbelts) but wanted them for my own peace of mind.
