Brake Back Plates - Mk1

Does anyone know if the back plates from the 6N will fit and work with the Mk1 Drums and other brake hardware?

I could do with some new ones, I can get the correct Mk1 items but theyre expensive! 6N ones are a lot cheaper and I know they used them on the later Mk1 Golf Cabs.

I plan to switch to discs at a later date, so dont want to spend a mint of bits that i'll be replacing. I do need the brakes to be right though...

as far as i can make out, they both use the same 180mm disc, so i'm gonna say yes they'll probably fit. check the part number for the discs, shoes and wheel cylinders to give you a beter idea

Yeah, everything seems the same. Brake shoes have a different OE number but when I cross reference it in the aftermarket stuff it goes to the same shoes...
Handbrake cables are different but I assum its just the length and the attachments are the same.
I know the wheel cylinders are the same as the Mk1 parts cross over to 6N Polo cylinders..
Stubs are the same, so are the bearings.
So it follows that I should be able to bolt it all up together. Worse case is the handbrake cables wont fit, but as the late cabs use the same cable all the way through I cant see why they wouldnt.

I seem to remember the Mk2 Scirocco Rear brakes are the same as Mk1 anyway, and VW list the 6N parts for the Mk2.

I'll get a pair of 6N back plates tomorrow. Theyre half the price of the Mk1 Backplates from Classic Parts, so worth a look.

Cheers

Bugger.
6N back plates are on back order. Cant find any aftermarket ones.
And im not using secondhand brake bits.

Hopefully my German mate has found be some original ones.
If i can get hold of some 6N backplates to compare I'll see if theyre the same

Hi,

Looking at ETKA the Mk1 drums change between '78 & '79.
'79 on LOOKs the same set up as a MK2 scirocco.
But under Mk1 both early and late type are listed as No Longer Available and don't have a part number.
Under MK2 the part number is 6N0609425A for Left & 6N0609426A for Right
And those part numbers do cross over to a Polo.

Good luck.

Ben.
