DASHBOARD headlamp switch.

the dashboard switch for my headlights stopped working and due to dificulty finding a replacement i had a freind at work have a look at it.
it turns out that the plastic holding the switch together on the inside had melted and broken the connection. easy enough to fix but i was wondering why it would have gotten hot enough to melt in the first place. any shorting issues i should look out for to stop a repeat failure?

Hi,

Common fault as the headlights wire directly through the switch.
You can sort it by fitting some relays in between the switch and the lights, I'm sure there is some more info on this on here somewhere.

Have you got a new switch? I've got a spare I can throw in with the other bits.
