Quiet exhaust

Hey guys I am replacing the exhaust and was wondering which aftermarket system would be the best in terms of noise levels, I don't need a huge tailpipe with a massive roar, something quiet and discreet is what I'm after!
Is the standard exhaust still available? I'm replacing the manifold and c clamp section with this stainless steel manifold:

When you fit the new manifold you will also need to protect/cover the rubber boot over the UJ joint on the steering rack from the heat.
You might already know this but incase you don't..

Good point, as it happens I'm also replacing the steering rack so I'll make sure to get some exhaust wrap!

I have been looking into the doing the same mate. I'm pretty sure the standard exhaust is available through local inde centres, GSF has most of the system but not the back box for some reason. I have looked at that manifold on eBay but haven't taken the plunge yet. The second picture where the exhuxst pipes don't seem to be in line puts me off a little. Have you bought it yet? Would like to know how you get on with it

No I haven't bought it yet but the guy did send me some more photos and an email, if you send me your emaili'll forward it to you chap.
I've no knowledge base for VW so all I know is heritage, GSF and eurocarparts (had my head stuck in classic minis for a decade) so if you have any recommended suppliers let me know!

If you end up goign for that particular manifold, can you let us know what its like in terms of fit and finish? Some reports say its perfect, an exact match of a supersprint but then other people report that the runners dont line up with the ports/it fould the steering coloumn etc..
I decided to get a GTI maifold & downpipe from ebay for mine, certainlky makes a big difference to drivability over the C clamp job.. Although when doing this you need to make sure engine mounts and exhaust rubbers are all in good or condition - the C clamp type allows movement between the mani and downpipe which can absorb engine movement, but the GTI type and the 4 branch you're looking at allow no movement at all. You might get lucky and it be ok, but theres a risk of the exhaust hitting the floor around the axle/backbox area, and even worse is the risk of the exhaust cracking!
Aswell as mounts and rubbers, I suggest you put a flexy section between the mani and the rest of they system, just to be sure it'll be ok
Also, a 4 branch is generally considered to be louder than standard, so you might want to go for a 3 box system, or maybe one with two big boxes but the exhaust place will advise you on noise levels..
