Hi
I need to replace the heater blower motor on my 1992 Gt2 rocco. Can anyone advise me if this can be done via the engine compartment, without removing the heater itself?

Hi, never had to do it on any of my 'roccos, done a few mk2 Golfs but they are under the passenger side dash. It looks like you do it from the engine compartment, the heater is under the drip tray. I found this guide, might help?

Done this through rain tray without removing any dash or interior.

I basically had to remove the window wiper motor/assembly. Then splitting the original and new motor/casing made removing and installing the new fan easier. This was done through the drivers side from what I recall..

Thanks Mac
Did you have problems separating the blower casing?
I had to give up after removing the window wiper assembly and finding that there was still not enough clearance to get the complete motor unit out. I did not try to split the casing. There seemed to be umteen catches drawing together the 2 parts of the casing and I didn't want to butcher it completely. I put things back together again to think again, but the thought of perhaps banjaxing a new motor casing puts me off. Am I being a plonker?
cheers and thanks again.

I damaged the old casing to get it out which I felt wasn't a problem, the brittle plastic broke and was discarded. The new after market fan and it's casing came apart relatively easily before fitting using a flat screwdriver, it's more pliable plastic. Clearly not designed to come apart that easily but managed.

Once apart I was able to get the motor and two outer shells in there some how :dunno: and recall they clipped back together easily. Skint knuckles and a horrible angle for your back but got there in the end :good:

Hi Mac
Had another go, followed your advice, and did it with no problem!
Beats removing the heater, etc from inside - big time!!
Most grateful again.
best wishes
