Picked this up last night, has a few gremlins needing sorted out one of which thanks to ianaudia 4 on here has been identified as a noisy fuel accumulator so that and a service are the immediate jobs over the next couple of days. Anyway here it is,as bought and hopefully at the weekend I can start tidying her up and giving it a good clean and polish

Try your local VW dealer for a new oil filter and oil, Synta Silver only costs about £17 for 5 litres, the filter about £4 and a copper sump washer pennies.
I would be looking at the condition of the vacumn hoses and when the cam belt was last changed, often over looked!
Looks a tidy car mate.

Gave the car a thorough service yesterday and is now running much better but still a little difficult to start when hot so need to look at that still. This weekend [weather allowing] hopefully get a chance to start the cleaning and polishing too.More pics tomorrow.

Due to a freak break in the snow/monsoon/hurricane type weather and the presence of a strange round shiny yellow thing in the sky today, it seemed like a good day to start cleaning the car up. This was the starting point
Once washed it kind of highlighted the state of the snowflake alloys
So before getting stuck into the paintwork or interior it made sense to tidy them up a bit.Forgot to take pics during the process but after lots of sanding and machine buffing with compound and metal polish a reasonable finish was obtained
much better
I only had time to do the passenger side wheels as it took quite a while, but as it was the first time I have had the wheels off the car it was a good chance to see what it looked like under there. This is what I found to my surprise
Hubcentric spacers on the front (but not the back for some reason) and what looks like coilovers all round! Now I don`t know much about uprated suspension and stuff but I take it that is what I have here?
Anyway heres a quick pic of the passenger side with the wheels back on.Hopefully the weather holds and I can get the drivers side done tomorrow and then get on with the paintwork
Cheers Chris

Lovely looking but can't help thinking that the rear wheels need pushing out a bit

totaly agree MrFunk, I`ve thought that since I got it and now know that there are spacers on the front but not the back so that will soon be sorted

a great start - yes, lose the spacers.

May I ask, why lose the spacers? Are the prone to failure or do the cause premature wear on steering/suspension components?
Thanks, Chris

with none on the rear you wont need them - hence the lost in the arch rear wheel look at the moment compared to front.
altern = get some on the rear too but little point tbh.

I expect the front spacers are just left over from a previous set of alloys with a different offset. Your handling on standard wheels will likely be much better without the spacers, front or rear.
