Fuel pump question

Thinking that the rough running and noise coming from the external fuel pump was indicative of the pump failing I changed the pump today, but as it turns out the noise was coming from the valve or filter type thingy immediately after the pump. So could some one tell me what it is please. The fuel line coming out of the pump goes into it and another comes back out of it and then carries on towards the engine bay.The part in question is kind of cylinderical with the fuel pipes going in and out at the same end.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

You could try these http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 8874,d.d2k

I haven't used them myself but the site looks promising for Bosch parts.

You also seem to missing the metal cage which holds the main fuel pump to the car. It look like in your photo its held on my cable ties?

Gave the car a thorough service and the transformation in its running is huge.It is much smoother and more responsive and it no longer cuts out and the kangarooing has stopped too. However it still is a little hesitant to start when warmed up.I have not as yet replaced the accumulator but the more I use the car the less noisy it becomes, so I am wondering if the fault lies elsewhere and if the accumulator is just suffering from the cars spell off the road.
Any thoughts welcome.
