Does anybody want a free Scirocco?

HI everybody,

After a lot of thought and procrastination, and nagging from the wife (mostly nagging from the wife, actually! :) ), I realise that I just can't afford to keep my 'rocco any more as I don't get chance to drive it these days now I'm married. And petrol prices, which are stupid.

This isn't a classified - there's no price or anything - I just want to know if anyone wants to give my '88 GT a good home?

There is - of course - a hitch.

It's not MOTed - because I can't afford to MOT it. Since I started my own business, I have zero cash to designate for my car.
It needs a little work - the fuse box needs changing (I have a replacement, just not fitted it). And one of the Pirelli P-slots is missing its cap, because I've not fitted the replacement I bought yet.
Apart from that it needs TLC.

The biggest problem? The rust. There's rust spots all over it, and because it's white - it looks worse than it is. The driver door needs replacing, it's too corroded at the bottom. Also the offside front wing needs replacing - but I have a spare white offside front wing for it.
The other biggest problem? It's in Aberystwyth. Not exactly next door to many people.

At the moment it's just sitting in the garage in the harbour which won't be doing it any good at all because of the salt water.

Does anyone feel like taking on a nice project? It has always been an excellent car for me - never broke down once, except when the radiator hose came off and I needed to reattach it... and one time it wouldn't start because the fuel hose had corroded.

It's an 'F' reg white 1600GT, it's done about 126,000 miles, the engine is good but the clutch is a little long (but works just fine), and the starter motor sometimes needs a hand (a push of the car helps it) when it's not been used for a while.

I really wish I could keep it and get it back as it should be, but I just don't have the time any more and can't justify the cost of insurance, road tax, garage etc.

So - any interest? Anyone want to give my car a good home?

Which other forum would you get a post like the one above. It's great being an owner of a Scirocco. Even better are the users of this forum, although the less I speak about forums at the minute, the better!!

I look at it as though he's doing me a favour! Not that I want to lose the 'rocco, but I'm just glad it should go to a good home. If I were to eBay it I'd get money, but who knows where it would go - this way I get to help people and I know it's not going to waste.

Looks like it's going to Bangor. Hopefully to be brought back up to speed and looked after nicely. :)

I intend to still check in on the forums sometimes though!

My Scirocco left Aberystwyth for new grounds today, but I think it went into good hands. I don't want to say who bought it as that's up to him, but you never know he may own up to it. :)

I just hope he can get her back up and fighting fit like his other Sciroccos, but if he can't I don't think anyone can!

Thanks to all the people who've helped over the years with the occasional problems I had (very occasional - great car :) )!

It actually looks better in the photos than in real life. :)

Look after it (and keep us informed on the forum!)

Glad it got home ok, too.

Clear front indicators are probably worth more than the cost of the fuel to collect it. Good work!

As long as it's not being driven by Clarkson, May, or Hammond, that was the purpose of giving it away. :)
