Scirocco Register

Hi I fitted a weber yesterday and have spent all morning trying to start the car it did fire up once and died
Any ideas
What I have done so for removed the old peiearburgh disconnected all plugs put them to one side fitted the weber reconnected the water to the inlet manifold put the vacuum
pipe that goes to the servo and distributor to the back of the weber reconnected the petrol house (it's a it longer than the old one ) connected the earth wire and frayed to start the car
Any help would be appreciated

Do you smell petrol on the plugs when trying to start the car? Is there petrol getting to the carb, I think you should see petrol squirt into the carb (when you have the air intake off) when you press the accelerator pedal even with out the car running.
Have you plumbed in the fuel in and return pipes the right way around?
Just some ideas.....

is it a new or used carb? have you done anything to start setting it up? (idle and mixture)

Yes I can smell petrol I can see it in the carb
I think I might have the vacuum pipes wrong as I have put the one pipe into the back of the carb and I think I should have one on a t junction into the back of the carb and one back out to the air filter ?

It is second hand got it of here been on a rocco before I think I have the vacuum pipes wrong if any one can give me a picture of how they should be it would help

Would the vacuum pipes being wrong stop it from starting ?

I'm not sure if the vac pipes would not make the car start as I've started my mk1 without the cover on the carb and the vac pipes attach to that. Not 100% sure as I've got a mk1 with a webber.
There is only 2 vac hoses on mine and I've only got an old photo so not sure if any use the one on the front of the air intake goes to the 1st outlet and the 2nd outlet gets to the carb.

It shouldn't stop it from running, but it won't run at its best with vac pipes off or in the wrong place.
These should help get those eliminated though.....

Hi I have checked the fitting of the weber all vacuum pipes fitted correctly I have a new choke cable fitted
I have checked all fittings all semester fine after a hour of fiddling and it will. Still not start I checked the spark I do not seem to have a spark could it be some thing I have done or is it some thing completely different any help would be appreciated

still wont start no spark checked rotor arm and dissy cap both new two weeks ago lots of dust in ther put old dissy cap back on still not fireing what next any ideas could it be a relay coil or other

how far back have you looked for the spark? check to see if there is anything coming out of the coil. an effective way of doing this * is to lick your finger and stick it in there while someone cranks the engine over. if you're thrown backwards and rolling round on the floor in agony, then you got a good spark

seriously though, if there ain't a spark now, and there was before you changed the carb, that would suggest that you might have knocked something - check all wires to the coil are tight, and try disconnecting the wire from the carb










*DO NOT do this, it really 'kin hurts

If you haven't touched the coil and it was OK all you can check is
1 The lead from the coil to the dizzy.
2 The leads are fitted in the correct firing order (easy mistake to make -I know ).
3 Earth wires are clean and secure.
4 Use new parts where possible as the cap and rotor arm are as cheap as chips and a set of leads are around £20.
5 Please don't take this the wrong way but is the rotor arm in and secure (same as No 2 ) Spent 10 mins one day wondering why she wouldn't start put my hand in my pocket and found out why

PS Going out to top up my anti-freeze so I'll try and get some pics of my carb set up so you can see the vac hoses set up as it appears to work OK.
