Sounds mad and I'm hoping I won't get laughed at, but has anyone done this? I was talking about it with a mate and he directed me to this thread:

Seems like some people are pretty into it - anyone know anything about the pros and cons of doing it, and whether you actually get a noticeable difference?

Yeah I thought it seemed like a dodgy idea, just interested to know whether it actually works. Apparently it gives the petrol a higher octane rating, and won't do any damage if there's no ethanol/methanol in it.

i used to add anything runny that burned to the fuel tank to get rid of it when i had my mk2 astra. it's amazing how much 3 or 4 litres of sump oil in a full tank of petrol would make it smoke :hehe: then for years i ran various cars (petrols and diesels) on fuel removed from misfuelled vehicles
