Scirocco Register

My car has now developed a new and interesting noise.when i brake,theres a noise that sounds like when you havent driven for a while and theres surface rust on your brakes,cept it does it now most times i brake.sounds like its coming from the back.never done scirocco brakes before so im wondering how easy it is and how long its going to take me?or will i just turn the stereo up louder?
Car still stops fine,no different than before the noise started so i'm not overly worried about it.maybe i should be though?i hate my car.tempted to abandon it in the garage and put up with winter beetle driving without heaters....

that noise you get whilst burning off the rust after a long standstill, usually also sounds like metal on metal.

id check you havent worn out your pads and are now on the metal! casual driving they'd feel like they still work fine (around town etc), so you may not have noticed due to this reason. specially if its the rears.

I kinda thought that although i was hoping someone on here would say it was normal and i could ignore it and go back to the xbox.pah....

You should record all your funny noises and make a Scirocco song.

But no I probably wouldn't just ignore it and go back to the Xbox. lol.

as said before, check shoes not worn down to the rivets, also worth checking the rear cylinders aren't leaking

Thanks for the replys.went to gsf today and bought new bearings,hubs and pads.thought i may as well do everything at once.the hubs are fab,very shiny.i may buy another to put up on the wall,i have a thing about machined metal bits...

Defo sounds like metal on metal which is not the ideal braking system in the world.
I have just ordered new ones from carparts4less and awaiting delivery this week.
They were Pagid and cost about a tenner each, brakes were the same make and came in at about 7 quid a corner.
Might arrange a day with the young team to fit them in between cups of coffee and bacon rolls.

Itl probably end up something stupid again after ive bought all the parts.theres maybe a road cone or a small child trapped in the wheel arch....

Ok so now that that noise is fixed,i have new problems.handbrake packed in half way round a multistorey carpark today which was exciting.think its the cables though as theyre tightened as much as theyl go and the footbrake still works.also i now have a constant squeal which is getting louder,no idea which wheel its coming from although it stops when i turn the wheel so i'm guessing its the front that has problems now.
Ideas anyone?

I have four cables as one of mine has gone but I haven't got round to changing it yet.
Not sure how easy / hard a job it is as I've never tackled it before.
Could be an excuse for coffee and a gab if anyone is available.

The handbrake cable breaking won't affect your footbrake, just make sure you leave it in gear so it can't roll or carry a brick with you at all times.
