I've been reading loads of threads with different people using different products in order to rustproof their pride and joy, but i've never heard anyone talk about applying that thick original stuff that makes mk1 front wings extremely difficult to remove.
What is this original underseal called and can you still buy it because surely that's the best thing to keep the rust away ??

It's industrial stuff, extremely heavy for what it is and a bastard to get off.
And bear in mind that the cars are 20/25 years old, things have progressed since then, we have telephones that can be moved around and everything.
Waxoyl is superb.

I suppose so yeah, i'd be quite happy to apply waxoyl if I was confident it was a more modern/effective way of keeping the rust away, i just thought it was a little lightweight in comparison.
Would this be suitable for inner front wheel arches etc ??

The stuff that is thickly used on wings where you have to cut through is more like a seam sealer which can be bought from motorfactors/automotive paint suppliers. It comes in cans or for sealant guns. It can be brushed about (a bit like decorators caulk) and when dry can be painted over.
Different ways you could approach this,
You could prep with primer like on general body work and then use this type of product (can be bought to use with a gun)..

Then you can use normal body colour for factory type finish.
Or you could use a product like this which is said to be one of the best cavity wax based underseals ..

Which I believe could be done with less prep, I have a can for doing little peeling bits of underseal where there is some rust starting to appear. I can use it after using a product by the same company called deox gel which removes rust.
There are also other products I have less info on from here but both of these companies have plenty to read up on and are highly recommended

Believe there is a great product called epoxy mastic from them and Dinotrol stuff is good?
