Scirocco Register

A few weeks ago I took my scirocco for its first track outing to see what needs improving, as ive decided its going to be my dedicated track car.

The track was raf marhams charity track event. Its got loads of run off which is good for novices like me , glad to say i never spun it but i cam close with a 4 wheel slide! Too much late braking plus needing to turn in It was great fun and i cant wait to get out to another, was the most fun ive had in any of my cars. My coolant hose broke so i had to bypass my oil cooler, im aware 120 degrees is pushing the oil to the max, i saw 130 at one point, and my started to slip under fast changes and then finally gave up at the end of the video. It got my back after, so all in im very pleased with it.

My rocco was one of the slowest cars down the straights, but i was impressed round the bends. My car is standard apart from the panel filter and custom exhaust. I had a few good comparisons pn track, not many other vws though except the jetta on the video. I went over to the bloke who owned the jetta to find out he was running a kr with a lightened flywheel, i was pretty surprised by that! My old 8v did me proud :) He was also running proper track tyres, not my pirelli p6000's

Anyone got a pics/videos of their roccos on track?

I use my mk2 scala for track day racing, its such good fun!

I got given the car because my uncle was going to scrap it but i wouldnt let him, i aquired some koni springs and dampers and polybushed wishbones off two guys i know with a racing mk1 golf (basically their old parts) and made my own exhaust and thats it!

So far ive been to donnington which wasnt very good cos the firepower there was just astonishing, audi R8's, 911 gt3's, caterhams and the like. Also been to bedford autodrome which was really good, more corners and more cars like clio 182's, 205 gtis and mx5's so a little bit better in terms of class. And finally been to mallory park which for me was the best, short and tight, so no real supercars! Id say i was passing %60 of the cars at mallory and its not so serious there. But so far my scala has cost me around £300 for everything, and has done 3 hard trackdays and the only thing thats gone wrong so far is a snapped plastic clip on the linkage!

^^ Thats my project thread, has some pictures of my scala at donnington, as you can see in the pits, audi r8, dodge viper, bmw m3 and there was also i think an old porsche 934 bi turbo 600bhp monster going round which was scary as hell! Also you can see my custom made front end which is a million times better for cooling, never goes anywhere past 88 degrees now. And booked mallory park for the 13th of october! cant wait! Ill put a link of a video of my scala round donnington later

Not very exciting but there you go

Just done my first track day at Aintree, in my GT2 its an 8 valve fitted with twin 40 Webers, its on coilies and is stripped out with upper and lower front braces and a rear brace too.
Not the fastest car on track but it corners brilliantly and didn't let me down all day.
Best part was when a guy in a Saab 900 Turbo came over to see what was under the bonnet because he said he'd been trying to catch me all day.
Can't wait for the next time out although I will be looking into better pads next time
