The wheels on my red scala are in a bit of state. Are they easy to refurb? I thought about getting some steel wheels from like the ones you get of the gt2 or g60 steel wheels. Not sure which way to go??

Lots of companies can refurb for between 45-60 a wheel. Well worth it if that's your thang

Get your Avus alloys (snowflakes) refurbished, they are a really nice wheel and much smarter than steel wheels IMHO.

Managed to pick up a battered and bruised set of snowflakes and took them from this:

first time i'd tried anything like this but with a bit of time and effort.....just need to save my pennies to get some rubber for them now

Hudjazz I started by taking the worst off with some really coarse paper that I got from B&Q. Its on a roll, is green and is showing P60 on the back thats all i can say about that. I also got a circular wire brush from there as well which was a great little item - It attaches straight into a drill and I'm sure I found it in the bathroom section - you can tell I'm not very technical about this stuff - I can nip in at the weekend and see if i can find it again and let you know if you like . From there i just worked through various paper grades - 180, 320, 500, 600, 800, 1000 etc. I then started with some stuff i got from 'the polishing shop'. Found them to be really helpful. I wasn't looking for a full polished/mirror polish on the snowflakes - I wanted more of a brushed/satin finish. You can get that finish by using the Satin Lap Mops from 'the polishing shop' - they come in various sizes but I used the 6" x 1 & 8" X 1 in medium and fine grades.
I'd already bought a full polishing kit - the standard 21 piece polishing kit they sell - for some Aluline/ATS cups I'm on with at the mo (I've got them all polished up just waiting for a mate to do a bit of powder coating on them and then they'll probably be up for sale - not sure they give the car the look I really want but then again....watch this space ) so already had the drill attachment for the mops. The lap mops are stupidly cheap but you will get through a few (but still single figures). The most expensive thing I found was investing in a decent drill I would say it must have a variable speed adjuster on it.

All in mate don't think i spent more then 60-70 quid, including the drill and this takes into account buying some trial and error stuff..

you won't need the polishing kit to get a brushed/satin finish but would need the spindle/adapter which you can get separately so you can use the mops

That helps a lot thanks! Did you do all the recessed bits too or just a quick clean and paint them?
Thinking if doing my Le Castelletes as they have a flat face and only really need the lacquer removing and re-applying.

Nice job on the snowflakes, I;d also be interested in how you painted the inner sections iemask up after the polishing and sprayed, or painted prior to the polishing????

got some p-slots in the garden that would look goos with a satin polish me thinks :)

Well done on doing it yourself, always satisfying.

I used a company called Lepsoms. Superb service.

They're able to rebuild wheels (my Borbets were in a shocking state) then they dip them in some kind of black rubber that protects them. After that they're painted any colour you want, balanced and the tyres are stuck back on.
