hi i own an 86 mk2 gt its a bare shell at min but i have a question the 1.6 engine is shot but i do have a 1.8 can i still use the gearbox from the 1.6

Yes, the 1.6 and 1.8 are visually identical from the outside, so the gearboxes are interchangeable
