I've been looking for a fuel filler neck today. It's looks like they are avaiable but only for the cat version but I didn't think there was a cat version? Even if there was are they different??

You could still buy them from the dealers a couple of years ago, maybe still can but have a look what I wrote on your other thread buddy.

gsf do one that fits, but you need to change filler cap. search the forum, there are shed loads of posts, i've even posted the part number for it

I commented on the Mk1 thread a while back that you can use the plastic one from an old 3-Series BMW.
But - then realised that it only fits the Mk2 ! Hopefully the link will work.

Did the fuel filler neck supplier get solved as I am desperately in need of one.
The guy that looks after the technical bits says he is unable to get a neck and the car may have to be scrapped if we cannot get one - help

I can't help you directly with the filler neck, but something just crossed my mind, why can't one be fitted that's made from flexible tubing, something similar to the silicone hoses that everyone fits under the bonnet. It's rated to high temp & pressure, so no problems there (not that it matters anyway), so long as some kind of guide(s) are fitted under the wheelarch to ensure it doesn't go near the wheel. Surely there must be something out there that would be better than the metal one.

I may be barking up the wrong tree with this & am more than happy to stand corrected, but was worth a thought.

Last time I had a browse on the VW Classic parts online shop (German language, but lots of pictures to aid navigation) mk2 filler necks were available. Not cheap (around £150 I think), but then looked-after they should last at least 20 years.

I used one intended for a Mk1 Golf on my Scala, it did need altering by some cutting and welding. I put a detailed write up on here, which I am sure could be found.

Was looking around at filler necks & am aware of everything that has been discussed about modifying MK1 golf one to fit etc etc, but has anybody looked at the Audi A4 one as it looks pretty darm close too on paper? just wondered if it would be any good as an alternative?

Turns out that my one was replaced a few years back, but it's starting to show signs of rust buildup & I think I'll play it safe & change it before the winter, but I was considering using some flexible/mouldable hose (40mm I think) & pushing it directly onto the tank & then cut off the top where the cap attaches leaving on enough good end for the hose to push onto, that way all I have to do it manufacturer a couple of fasteners to secure it to the original mounting points on the underside, looks easy enough & should last for rest of life of car.

Any thoughts or input greatly received.

make sure you clean up and paint the remaining metal bit with something fuel proof to stave off the rust, and make sure you use fuel proof rubber hose! i speak from experience that watching a full tank of optimax leak over the floor is soul destroying

My 85 GTS is showing signs of rust starting on the o/s inner wing where the fuel filler pipe fastens to the body. I do most things on the car myself but NOT welding. Is this a complicated (read = expensive) repair to pay to have done ? Any tips to pass on to the body shop ?

The actual pipe feels ok by hand but might need replacing, I take it they are still like hens teeth ?
