how much?

i know this comes up so often..

but how much can you expect to pay at the very least for a mk1 with an MOT?

not too bothered about the engine or the rust (however MOT passable)

as i plan on stripping it apart and fixing it up to make a clean road legal race/track car. (selling all the interior bits i won't be keeping)

so my big question is what will be my budget on buying one?

cheers guys,

Lew

just to add.. i refuse to buy anything worth making concourse or similar.. that would be plain wrong to turn something like that into a race car.

I reckon that GLS in our classifieds at £1800 with a new MoT is fairly priced. £3000 or thereabouts for something structurally and mostly cosmetically sound.

If you're planning on using it on the track, a lack of rust should be high on your list of priorities. Rust doesn't offer much structural integrity in the event of an accident. An MoT can be passed with patch repairs, which isn't what I'd want if I was hurtling round a track.

i was planning on cutting the rust all out if there was to be any.

well... mk1s defiantly hold a price above that of a mk1 golf and a mk2 rocco..

They have a narrow band of value because there aren't many of them. So anything with an MoT in reasonable condition will set you back around £1500 up to £3000-£4000 for the best. Rough ones without an MoT probably £400-£750 depending on how rough.

Mk1 Golfs have a broader price range because there's much more choice - an excellent GTI might make £10k, a low-spec runner with MoT under £1000.

Mk2 Sciroccos are universally cheap.
