I'm totally happy with the height of my mark 2 on the standard suspenion set-up, but as I've got 16 x 7.5 wheels, ther rears rub once in a while if I've got a fatty in the back. Is it possible to stiffen up the suspension without lowering it? If so, is it costly/difficult?

I don't want to dramatically alter anything, just tweak it a little to eliminate occasional rubbing. I think the width of the wheels is the problem as the tyres are very low profile, but I don't particularly want to change wheels, nor can I afford any nice ones anyway.

Do you know where it rubs on the tyre? - inside or outside edge?
You may be better off getting the arches rolled - that should solve the problem

I'm not sure exactly where it's rubbing. It's hard to get it to do it and have someone looking for where it rubs as it only happens over speed bumps and the like and with someone in the back.

Wouldn't arch rolling cause paint work problems on the rolled areas, thus requiring a respray, or would it be hidden by the bodykit? I presume I'd take it to an auto bodies place to get that done. Any idea of the costs involved at all? Cheers.

Probably cut the plastic kit back abit and then roll the metal behind it. Suposed to heat the paint up so it doesnt crack though a skim of paint around the lip on the inside after would be wise. Around 40 a corner i think.

Yeap.
Cheap coilovers from ebay for less than £200 to your door, adjust them to the current height of your car, and as there a stiffer piston, it will stop the rubbing on the tyres. Failing that of course, just wind them up another 10mm..
