gearbox prob

hi could anyone help ive lost 1st and 2nd and reverse gears any ideas ? i thought maybe gear linkage replacement or gear selector ? any other ideas please

Could be the long shaft that connects the bottom of the gearstick to the linkage; if that's become loose and has twisted out of alignment, it could be causing the problem you describe. Best to get under there and check it over.

I had a similar problem over the weekend. Turned out to be that the engine and gearbox retaining bolts had come lose.
Which was nice.

I suspect the short link on top of the gearbox which transfers side to side movement from the gear lever to movement to the internal selector mechanism. If you get someone to move the gear lever side to side you will be able to see if it is actuating anything on top of the gearbox. This link may be still attached at one end, if so pop back on. However it may have vanished completely. In either case replace it, it has nylon (I think) bushes at the ends, these wear allowing it to come off. Once it has happened it will do so again.
