Scirocco Register

Removed this today to find a small amount of corrosion where the little breather valve is for venting the fuel tank. The uppermost mounting bolt snapped off whilst I tried to undo it.

I know everything is there for a reason but I think this arch liner has contributed to the problem as it has trapped a lot of mud up there.

Do people run without them to allow regular inspection and cleaning or am I best to refit it? Not sure what to do for the best!

Keep it. Unless you are going to clean the car religiously at least once a week. You only need to compare the longevity of front wings on mk1 (no liner) with mk2 (liners) to know how much difference they make.

Have to disagree with Ed. As long as what's underneath is well coated in goo (can't be more technical as I'm still fairly rat arsed) then you should be fine.
I haven't had any for three or four years. But saying that my car does normally spend more time off the road than on it

It really depends on how much you'll be using the car. For a regular driver all year round, I think they're pretty much essential. If you only go out in the car once in a while, in nice weather, when there's no muck/salt on the roads, you probably don't need them.

I use the car all year around so I will refit it. Will have to come up with a new way of securing it at the top as the mounting and stud sheared when I tried to undo it!
