Hi people!
I know this has been asked many times, but i just want some advice, ive only ever driven two mk2 sciroccos, and both of the gear changes are abit sloppy and almost too light? I know you can buy refurb kits with bushes and what have you, but does this actually make the shifts tighter, and actually have some feel to them. Id quite like a nice short shift with alot of feel to it, as in quite heavy. Anyone recommend or link me a kit that they know is good. Also i take it im looking for a mk1 golf 1.8gti 8v kit instead of a mk2 golf gti 8v kit right?
Im wanting to fit it too a 1.8 gti 8v gtx
Help very much appreciated guys! :good:

replacing all the bushes will take a lot of the slop out of the linkage, and give you a much more positive feel. you will also probably want to do something with the "golf ball" (look at the linkage, you'll see what i mean) as they wear quite badly too

Your best bet is to use the search button and put in "Short shift" or "quick shift" and see what comes up.
I tried this and it comes up with all the alternatives under the sun, too many to cut and paste.
Hope you find it helpful.

Think im just gonna get a full repair kit and see how that goes then, ive got an old weight off a mk1 shifter kit thats snapped on the rod so im gonna weld this to my linkage, saves £50 odd quid on buying a new weighted rod!
Thanks Nate!

get someone to change thru the gears while you watch the linkage. you'll be able to see where most of the play is

Fitting a new bush kit makes a load of difference. Had a quick shift on the old car and while it was great 1st and 3rd gear got confusing until you got used to it.

Got a new bush kit and stainless steel rods fitted to this one and it's lovely, did have a weighted rod on but took it off as it wasn't very nice.
