My new engine build

Well, after running the KR engine for a few thousand miles i decided i missed the 8v's low end torque but love the 16v's top end power (they seriously fly after 70mph/4500rpm) but getting up to the higher revs there isn't much in in between the 8 or 16v!

Hence why i sourced this to hopefully solve the low end torque

Yup, a 2.0 ABF block

Its only covered 68k (apparently) and there is no wear anywhere in the block, all the honing marks are still visable and the mains are all fine - not too bad for £70!!

Also got myself a KR cylinder head that i wanted to have a go at rebuilding

As it arrived

Absolutely filthy!!!! Had to strip it down before i could send it away - how many parts are there!?!?!

A few days later i got the head back

Much much better! Also decided to have the ports opened up

Then after a couple of hours i got all the valves re-lapped (pain in the arse to do!) and the head back together with plenty of new oil

Got a new clutch kit and fitted it

Image

While i was at it i managed to get the head onto the engine - head bolts are seriously tight :dash:

Now i could fit my nice new cams - i've gone with using ABF cams as they have slightly more duration than the KR ones (new chian fitted too!)

Everything lined up nicely :)

Fitted a new belt and tensioner (ABF belt but with a KR tensioner) no pics of this tho as i forgot

Got the manifolds/valve cover fit with all new gaskets and i thinkits looking pretty good

Hopefully next weekend i'll be dropping it into the car :good:

I actually got it for free

I was owed a couple of favours by the guy who did the work!

i paid £80 which included having the head de-coked dipped in acid, cleaned all the way
Pressure tested and the surface refaced..

I think companies charge around that price generally.

I have a pic of mine in photobucket.. see my build thread :D

Excellent work Birdy! Should be a nice motor when done
