Last resort for leaks!!!

OK, tracking down these leaks has finally come to sealing the windows in a last ditch attempt.

So far I have redone the door membranes (which were leaking, a lot), coated the scuttle panel in flexane, masticked somewhere up inside the dash that I though may be letting water in and replaced any missing grommets in the bulk head. Also spent many a rainy day sat in the car trying to see where it was coming from still and could not determine anything conclusively.

So I bought some windscreen sealant from halfords

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_255230

and

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_255230

After cleaning under the seal as well as I could with a toothbrush and drying afterwards I used the black sealant where the seal meets the bodywork and the clear stuff where the seal meets the glass.

With the black stuff I was able to lift the seal and place the tip of the tube underneath the seal to squirt it in, but with the glass side I could not and had to settle for applying a fine bead where they meet.

I also used the black stuff the fill in any gaps around the passenger windows where the various bits of seal dont match up and it looks OK, and also used it to seal underneath the spoiler as I think occasionally some water is getting in through there.

If any water still comes in after all that then I am at a loss as to where it can be coming from!!!

I just want to put my carpets and soundproofing back in and have a comfortable (ish) car again. :hehe:

You mean the garage on London road? If so then yes probably was me, I live up the hill from there. Where abouts were you?

From inside the scuttle panel I take it you mean? I'll look tomorrow. Had the hose on it yesterday and saw nothing coming in so fingers crossed I've cracked it.

another place that leaks is where the boot strut bolts to the car with two cross head screws the gasket under the bracket is shocking. i changed mine to resolve a leak into the boot.

i was driving the tow truck sat on their forecourt.

after the rain we've had over the last few days, how are you doing for leakproofness?

Still the same, a small trickle coming down in front of both doors from god knows where...
I'm just accepting it now, I have lined each foot well with a sheet of foam for soundproofing that I can remove to allow it to dry and I'm going to put some nice well fitted mats over the top when I get some sorted. I'm only intending on driving it in the summer so shouldn't be too bad.

Ha, looking back I remember thinking, "bloody tow truck is blocking my view pulling out of the junction".

You'll probably see me again no doubt as I drive back and forth from Brize Norton every few days and your somewhere near Ciren right?

Unless I am misinterpreting what you have said I still think it could be the door membranes. There is a way of doing the membranes where you put a piece on and tuck it in to the cavity then put another piece on top. The doors are designed to allow water to flow through them and drain out at the base so the membrane must work. I had a Mk2 Polo that did the same thing which was very hard to detect.

The last time I did a membrane I meticulously put good quality double sided tape round all the original bonding areas stuck on clear polythene trimmed with a sharp blade and then used heat from a heat gun to make it shrink nicely to the shape of the doors.

Hope you figure it out.
