Looking to try an install these
http://www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/class ... ers-2.html
as my only two speakers in the car, I want them hidden. I have a mk1 and im struggling to find anywhere but the boot to mount them and worried that it might sound a rubbish just having the two speakers in the whole car in the boot behind the parcel shelf.
They wont fit under the seats or behind the seats, does anyone have any suggestions or alternative ideas for hidden speakers?
cheers

Another option you could do if you don't want to go down the route of cutting speaker holes in the doors or parcel shelf is a set of shelf mounted speakers that you could screw into the parcel shelf, I had a set of these on my first MK1 Scirocco back in 1985, I think they were made by Pioneer. I know they are not hidden but you are not going to get a good sound with speakers hidden in the boot and you are not vandalising your interior.

If you get hold of some mk1 storm door cards, they have speaker pods in them from the factory. Probably the best option if you want a factory look.

make a replacement shelf to allow fitting of speakers without butchering your standard one. fit some sockets into the side of the boot, so you can unplug and remove the shelf, should you want to

Or plonk those in the boot and make a mesh parcel shelf?
The problem with speakers in the boot is the treble (the boot won't let it out evenly) - not the bass. (the waveforms are longer than the thickness of the parcel shelf)
For a "nice" solution, perhaps something period like these:

They tend to have a big logo emblazoned on the back -so pick a good brand!
in conjunction with a small (either active or with the amp screwed to the box) sub in the boot?

Thanks for the help & advice
I have decided to go with a proper set up as I think I will be not happy with the sound of undercover speakers or on shelf speakers, I have managed design it so every component is in the right place for optimal sound and completely hidden :)
