Filler Neck Preservation!

Ive got my filler neck off, and considering having a stainless one made up, it seemed a bit fidly, and came to the conclusion that it would be expensive. Its not overly rusty, the flange is okay too.
I'm thinking of acid dipping it, and then preserving it with a coating. The issues would be getting decent coverage inside the pipe, and also the paint/coating needs to stop the rust and not react with or enter the fuel system.
Anybody tried this before?

is the inside of it actually corroding? mine went from the outside in. if i was trying to repair an old one, i'd go for electrolytic rust removal, treat the inside with frosts fuel tank sealer, and the outside with paint (as you would bodywork) then a coat of black snot / shultz / whatever you want to call it
or just buy a new one from gsf

how did you solder a steel pipe??
i'd also be very wary of painting the inside of the pipe with anything that isn't specifically designed to be submerged in petrol permenantly. being able to resist petrol spillage isn't the same!

I could, except I like painting stuff

i'm thinking alternating pink and chrome stripes
You cant garuantee hammerite isn't gonna flake off, esp as its difficult to prepare the inside surface for paint. Also the neck already has a black finish, it might need stripping off first with paint stripper?
Probably gonna try the Frost stuff (although they are slightly expensive)
Just out of interest has anyone had a stainless one made? How much was it?
