Just bought these off ebay.

Got them for £35 without the sender as he realised when he went to pack them that the sender was 0-3 bar.

Bargain, I hope. Got a few questions I was hoping someone could help with.

1. Is a 5 bar gauge enough for a DX engine or does it need to be 10 bar as I have seen both for sale.

2.If 5 bar is enough then am I right in thinking this is the sender I want so that the oil pressure buzzer still works.

3. Where can you buy the black bezels to go over the chrome ones, a quick search on google brought nothing up.

The gauge you have bought, only goes up to 5 Bar, so that is the sender you need.

The oil warning buzzer will not be affected whether you have the single or double pole sender.

If you want to keep your existing oil warning light, then you need the double pole sender. You replace the sender in the cylinder head.

Thread should be M10 x 1 (metric fine). Isn't NPTF a different thread fitting, so I do not know why that reference is mentioned.

Whats the range of oil pressure to be expected during normal operation?

They will work ok on a DX. The pressure at startup when cold will be about 5 bar and about 3.5 when warm. The sender needs to be 0-5 bar and have a M10x1mm thread, 2 pole preferably and screws into the side of the cylinder head in place of the sender with the blue wire. The surround the gauges are currently fitted in will not fit the scirocco centre console but you can make one or buy ready made off ebay. See my post:

Once warmed up does the oil pressure ever rise again or could it if there was a problem?

Thats what I was going to copy for mine. Was hoping the surround they were in would fit in there with a bit of dremel action but if not I will have to buy a new one.

No need for a 10 bar gauge as the pressure never gets near that. The picture of my oil pressure gauge (in the middle) shows the pressure just below 5 bar at idle when cold. The pressure reduces when warm as the oil is thinner. The only time pressure would increase would be if the oil pump relief valve failed shut, (it is normally partially open when cold to keep the pressure below 5 bar.)

Looking on the Parts catalogue in the electrical section it shows three gauges mounted in the lower centre console but I cannot find a reference to the bracket or centre console like this anywhere in the bodywork section.

Has anyone every actually seen one in the flesh.

That one already has holes drilled, but you’d need to make sure of the fit.

Better still VW Heritage do this one which is a bit dearer, but definitely fits …

Or you can buy this radio blanking plate from me, which should fit, and just drill the holes yourself …

Thats to fit in place of the stereo or as referred to earlier in place of the ashtray with a bit of cutting.

But what about in the lower centre console as shown in the parts catalogue screenshot.

Sorry, not sure. I was offering this up as I assumed you'd be placing the units where Rob has his ... in which case this might've been ofuse.

I am considering that option but would like to avoid cutting up my centre console if possible.

Maybe I could make some brackets to attach the blanking plate to the lower console.

The screen shot you have put up is a Golf MK1, it came with 3 holes for additional gauges. Most later MK1 Golfs with a MFA didn't have the extra gauges.

That screen shot was taken from the parts catalogue under the electrical section of a 1983 Scirocco.

So does the Mk1 golf lower centre console fit in a MK2 rocco?
